Get The Look - The Academy Edit

It's another #GetTheLook - can't believe it's Friday already, where has the week gone to! We've gotten lots of messages this week on what concealers to use so today we're going to focus on coverage and recreating an Academy Student look!

This is one of the looks covered in our VTCT qualified course and this one was part of the bridal section. Aimee demonstrates a look and then the students practice. This is the certified course that allows you to work freelance, editorial or on counter after. Kathleen Before Makeup

Prep

In the look we used a glow primer, even though Kathleen has oily skin I wouldn’t usually recommend that someone use a glow primer, but this primer has SPF in it so it mattifies the skin a little and it makes it user friendly for both dry and oily skins.

Base

For the foundation we used MAC Studio Fix Fluid in shade NC 20. This is a really nice colour for a light tan. We also used MAC Studio Finish Concealer, I applied this before I put the foundation on, you can also apply it after the foundation but if you do that you need to make sure that it matches the foundation colour! You only need to apply a small amount of the concealer, it's lovely and lightweight and has a creamy texture which lasts all day. MAC foundations and concealers have amazing coverage without being too drying on the skin. We set the face with Laura Mercier Translucent Powder which is a really fine milled powder and sets makeup beautifully without being in anyways heavy on the skin.

Contour

I used the Limited Edition Refilled Palette for Kathleen's contour. This palette has Medium Bronze which I worked into the hollows of the cheekbones using the Sculpted Double Ended Brush, around the hairline and down the sides of the nose.

Pearl Pop Cream Highlight was used on the tips of the cheekbones, down the centre of the nose and on the cupids bow. We did a blog on how to apply cream highlight so if you'd like some more tips on this you can find it here!

I used the Rose Gold Glow Powder highlight on the tips of cheekbones, down the centre of the nose and along the cupids bow, following the same areas as the cream highlight for added glow.

And we used the Pink Swoon Blush from the palette (you can't buy this blush as an individual pan, it's only available in this palette!) Using the Setter Brush I popped this on the apples of the cheeks and worked it back ever so slightly to meet the contour.

Eyes

Keeping in the spring / summer trend of 2019 we used pinky tones on the eyes.

Using the Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette I used the bronze on the eyelid using a the blender eyeshadow brush and the dark brown into the crease of the lid and just underneath the eye to give a smokey eye effect. I also used a little MAC Tan Pigment in the centre of the lid and blending it out slightly. We used Inglot 77 to line the eyes, this is just a great product, it's so easy to apply when you use the correct brush. We used the definer and a little product, starting at the inner corner of the eye and working outwards. And to finish the look we used individual lashes from Penney's the whole way across the eyes.

On the brows we used the Benefit KaBrow in shade 3. Kathleen has much darker brows than her hair colour so I used a lighter shade so as to not make the brows any darker than they are naturally!

Lips

I lined the lips with Rose from the Pink Lip Quad and used MAC Angel Lipstick on top. Lip liner is your best friend for adding definition to the lips and also helps to keep your lipstick lasting longer and prevents it bleeding out. I then popped some gloss - wait for this - from Dealz in the centre of the lips! The shade is nice n' nude and it's very purse friendly at only €1.50!! And it's amazing!!
